Buttermilk biscuits like mom used to make

Biscuits can go with just about anything, especially sausage gravy. You can also add different things to them to go with any meal.

Ingredients

2 cups self-rising flour ( if you don’t have this flour, use all-purpose flour but add , 2 teaspoons baking powder, and a dash of salt)

1/4 cup shortening (yes, I said shortening)

1 cup buttermilk

melted butter

Directions

Preheat oven to 475

Mix dry ingredients. Use a fork (or pastry cutter) to cut in the shortening until it looks like little pebbles.

Add buttermilk, but do not over mix.

Spread a good layer of flour on your workplace and turn out your dough.

Gently knead and fold several times. Using a rolling-pin, roll dough until it is approximately one inch thick.

Cut out your biscuits with a  biscuit cutter (or glass), reshaping dough until it’s all used.

Place biscuits on cookie sheet so they are just barely touching. Brush with melted butter and bake until golden brown.
